Harry Kane keen to add Real Madrid scalp to his collection

Kane scored his first Champions League treble on Tuesday to seal a 3-0 victory in Cyprus and now has his eye on the greatest challenge in football - overcoming Real Madrid.

Spurs travel to the Santiago Bernabeu next month in a strong position to qualify, having taken two wins out of two in Group H, and with Kane in irresistible form.

The 24-year-old now has 11 goals in seven games for club and country and after the full-time whistle he posted an Instagram picture of himself holding the matchball, signed by his team-mates.

"I'm hoping to build a room for them, the trophies and balls, at the moment they're at home," Kane said.

"The room isn't built yet but hopefully it will be soon. At the moment they're just in the bags, in the cupboards, waiting to be put up. Hopefully I'll need a bigger room, that's what I'm waiting for."

Tottenham will head to Madrid knowing even a point would be a bonus to their hopes of progress, but the match is also likely to be billed as a battle of Kane against Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane may never match Ronaldo's stunning career numbers but the England forward's 2017 record of 34 goals in 30 club appearances trumps the Portuguese, who has 31 in 33. Lionel Messi has 43 in 41 for Barcelona.

"We probably won't be up against each other much in the game but it's always great to play the best in the world," Kane said on facing Ronaldo.

"They also have one of the best defences with (Sergio) Ramos, Marcelo, players like that. I want to test myself against the best, they have been the best the last few years without a doubt.

"I'm looking forward to it - I've never been to the Bernabeu, it's going to be exciting and I want to put in a performance like I have been recently."

The last time Tottenham visited Madrid in this competition was in the quarter-finals in 2011, when Peter Crouch was sent off and Harry Redknapp's side were hammered 4-0.

Kane, however, insists Spurs, who boast a perfect away record this season, can spring a surprise.

"We're definitely confident, we feel we can beat anyone on our day," Kane said.

"Of course we know it will be tough but it's two good teams, an open game probably, and it will probably come down again to who is more clinical in the final third.

"Hopefully that can be us. We are going there to win, not just to get a result, but we will see what happens."

Before then, Mauricio Pochettino's men have two Premier League games to negotiate, starting with Huddersfield on Saturday.

Pochettino will hope at least to have Christian Eriksen available again, after the Dane missed the Cyprus trip through illness, but Mousa Dembele is still struggling with pain in his foot.

Kane says Tottenham can cope. "This win shows we have a good squad, players coming in who are ready to take their chance," he said.

"It was a brilliant team performance - a clean sheet, three goals - any game away from home in the Champions League, we'll take that."
