EDERSON: Was not overly busy but could not keep out Wayne Rooney's shot when it mattered. 5

KYLE WALKER: Had only just started to get into the game when he was sent off for a harsh second yellow card. 5

JOHN STONES: Was quietly efficient before being sacrificed as City chased the game. 6

VINCENT KOMPANY: Provided a commanding presence at the back for City but showed his frustration at times. 6

NICOLAS OTAMENDI: Had a few uneasy moments as Everton's forwards ran at him. 6

LEROY SANE: Came up short with the defensive aspects of his wing-back role and was at fault in the build-up to Rooney's goal. 5

FERNANDINHO: An understated but solid performance from the Brazilian midfielder. 6

KEVIN DE BRUYNE: Had a couple of early chances and was more influential in the second half but was generally frustrated. 6

DAVID SILVA: Cut through Everton with sharp runs and incisive passing early on, also hitting the post. 7

GABRIEL JESUS: Struggled to make the most of possession and had no serious sights of goal. 5

SERGIO AGUERO: Provided the usual formidable threat up front but lacked sharpness. 6

RAHEEM STERLING (for Jesus, 45): Gave City a spark when he came on but squandered a couple of good chances before rifling in an equaliser. 7

DANILO (for Stones, 65): Came on as City looked to get back into the game, allowing a slight change of shape. 6

BERNARDO SILVA (for Sane, 69): Gave City some fresh legs and impetus in the final third in the latter stages. 6

EVERTON

JORDAN PICKFORD: Another night of impressive distribution and important saves when called upon. Could do little to prevent City's equaliser. 7

MASON HOLGATE: The callow defender did a steady job at right wing-back, but his poor header allowed Raheem Sterling to level late on. 7

MICHAEL KEANE: Grew as the match wore on and the City pressure ratcheted up. 7

ASHLEY WILLIAMS: A solid performance in Everton's three-man defence, the Wales captain left the field looking in discomfort. 6

PHIL JAGIELKA: Shone in the early stages in Manchester, twice denying Sergio Aguero in quick succession. Stayed at a high level throughout. 7

MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN: Booked inside seven minutes for a late challenge on Sergio Aguero, the France midfielder did his job diligently until earning a second yellow late on for another tackle on the Argentinian. 6

LEIGHTON BAINES: Able to fulfil the role of left wing-back impressively at 32, he produced a great first-half recovery tackle to deny Walker. 7

IDRISSA GANA GUEYE: Another solid performance sweeping up in midfield and breaking up the play. 6

DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN: Stretched City's defence and caused no end of trouble. Great work and cross for Wayne Rooney's goal, he went down heavily as Kyle Walker earned an early bath. 8

TOM DAVIES: The young Evertonian is still a little green, underlined by his early booking for diving. Quick feet but unable to dictate play at the Etihad. 6

WAYNE ROONEY: Manchester United's all-time top scorer certainly enjoyed opening the scoring, cupping his ears amid the jeers. Rooney appears to be enjoying life back at Everton. 7

SUBSTITUTES:

DAVY KLAASSEN (for Williams, 61): Did not offer a huge amount going forwards but provided a crucial stoppage-time interception. 6

GYLFI SIGURDSSON (for Davies, 61): The club's record signing was unable to kick Everton on against the 10 men of City. 6
