Mixed injury news for Leicester ahead of Liverpool clash

Vardy missed the Carabao Cup game against Jurgen Klopp's team on Tuesday night having been withdrawn late on in the draw at Huddersfield last weekend with a groin injury.

The England striker had been unable to train because of the problem but he did some work on Friday and it is hoped he will be back in contention when Liverpool return to the King Power Stadium tomorrow.

"We had to take it easy with Jamie the first part of the week but he trained this morning. Hopefully, there will be no reaction. We will see in the morning. He is okay," said Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare.

However, James will miss out against the Reds after being ruled out for between four and six weeks with an Achilles injury.

The midfielder sustained the problem in the home defeat to Chelsea two weeks ago and the issue has turned out to be worse than initially thought.

It represents another blow for James, who had missed almost two full seasons with a knee injury before his recent return to action.

"He will be out for between four to six weeks," said Shakespeare. "He has an Achilles strain. His foot is in a boot.

"I am really gutted for Matty because of the timing of it when he had worked his way back, but i t is something he can mentally deal with now because it is short-term rather than long-term.

"You feel for the players because I know what he has been through. It is well documented.

"He wants to please and do well. He wants to train and doesn't want to miss a session. For the last 18 months, and I include the Barnsley loan in that, he hasn't missed a session.

"He picked this up against Chelsea and tried to carry on. Maybe in hindsight if he had come off he would have protected it a bit more.

"That is his nature, he wanted to carry on, but he has probably made it a bit worse."

Elsewhere, Christian Fuchs (eye) and Leonardo Ulloa (head) have resumed training and are in contention but Robert Huth (ankle) is still not ready to return.
