Marko Grujic
Klopp’s first signing has impressed when used, but his first season was a write-off because of injury and he is currently trying to force his way into Premier League plans.

Not only Klopp’s best signing, but – alongside Luis Suarez – one of the best Liverpool signings of the last 10 years. With him, Liverpool are lethal. Without him, they do things like go out of cups and fail to win four successive games.

A Bosman transfer, Matip is part of a much-maligned defence yet individually he has been rather impressive. Will benefit from a dominant partner, if Liverpool ever get one.

Loris Karius
Signed to be the new Liverpool number one, he endured a nightmare start and is being judged accordingly. Has actually looked okay more recently. Feeling is he will eventually be first choice.

Ragnar Klavan
A back-up centre-half who has been thrust into first team duty more often because of the collection of niggles and ailments of Dejan Lovren. For all the criticism, he is still an upgrade on Martin Skrtel.

Alex Manninger
Signed for one season as third choice keeper a year ago. Did not feature outside of pre-season games.

Georginio Wijnaldum
A big game player who has consistently delivered his best performances against the strongest opposition. Needs to do more against ‘lesser’ sides, but overall has become a favourite.

Dominic Solanke
A player of huge potential who has shown glimpse of a promising career already. A fee is yet to be determined, but his capture represents smart business.

Has hit the ground running, or should that be sprinting, so far in his Liverpool career. He has scored every time he has started at Anfield so far.

Liverpool’s best player in every game he has started to date. Sooner rather than later he will be Liverpool’s first choice left-back.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Has only started one game so far. Too soon to judge how he will fare longer-term. Needs to adjust to Liverpool’s style, but he has arrived at Anfield low in form and confidence.
