Jurgen Klopp is 'angry' as he defends his approach after Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Burnley

Liverpool had THIRTY FIVE shots at goal in what was a one-side contest in front of a frustrated Anfield crown, yet the visitors could have left with all three point after Ben Mee twice came close to snatching a Burnley winner in the closing stages.

The enduring defensive problems that continue to undermine Liverpool’s ambitions were exposed on several occasions as Ireland midfielder Robbie Brady served up a succession of classy free kicks into the box, yet Klopp was struggling to contain his frustration as he faced the media.

“I’m angry with the result,” said Klopp. “It’s our fault. We were dominant, fantastic attitude. We played good, were fluent with seven changes to the team (from the 2-2 draw against Sevilla on Wednesday), but we only score one goal.

“A lot of parts of the game I was really happy with. We played offensive football, dominant football, possession football how it should be. Their keeper made a few outstanding, but we have to score more.”

Klopp’s creaking defence looked less than secure once again after a week that saw Liverpool lose 5-0 at Manchester City and give away cheap goals in their 2-2 Champions League draw against Sevilla on Tuesday, but the German tactician accepting the criticism coming his way is justified, even though he claimed a lack of luck was crucial in his side’s latest disappointing result.

“Obviously fortune didn’t wear a Liverpool shirt today,” he stated.

Why we feel so disappointed or frustrated is because we all see what this team would be able to do. We made seven changes and still played this kind of great football.

“Nobody should take that for granted, it’s pretty rare, so that’s good. Obviously we have quality and now we have to use this quality consistently, that should be the plan.

“Yes, we have to improve, but there are a lot of really positive things. Unfortunately, I still don’t feel any positivity in this moment, I am still in the 1-1 mood, but it is easy to see all the positive things from tomorrow on again.

“We have still space for improvement, that was clear before the season, but we could have won pretty much all our games so far this season when you think about the performance.”

Liverpool’s bright start to the season now seems like a distant memory after three disappointing results, but Klopp stressed this was not the moment to draw comparisons to his side and free-scoring Premier League leaders Manchester City, who won 6-0 at Watford on Saturday.

“Obviously they took a lot of confidence from our game, unfortunately for us, but it is like it is,” he added. “We should not compare with other teams.

“I understand and know the reasons why maybe a lot of people are doing that, but we have our way and it’s not the worst.”
