Philippe Coutinho with Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a defiant hands-off warning to Barcelona after stating his midfielder Philippe Coutinho is not for sale.

Klopp and Liverpool have insisted on several occasions that they will not consider selling the Brazilian No.10 who signed a new contract with the Anfield club last January, but Barcelona have given strong indications that they remain keen to sign the 25-year-old if Neymar completes a record breaking move to Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days.

Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu gave a hint yet that his club will launch a mega-money move for Coutinho over the weekend, as he suggested he ‘could not confirm or deny anything’ regarding their interest in the player.

Yet Klopp has now made Liverpool’s stance clear, after insisting they will not consider any sale this summer.

"He is not available for sale," stated Klopp said at a press conference on Monday. "There is no other interpretation of that. There is nothing new."

However, Liverpool goal scoring great John Aldridge fears Coutinho could be unsettled by an offer from Barcelona, as he suggests the Catalan giants are tough to turn down.

"Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two clubs in world football that turn the head of any player and I could guess the prospect of playing for one of the biggest names in world football will appeal to Liverpool’s No.10," Aldridge told sundayworld.com.

"South American kids dream of playing for one of Spain’s superpower clubs and as we saw with Suarez a couple of years back, Liverpool cannot hang on to a player if the price if right and he wants to go.

"That rule applies to almost every club in world football there comes a point when a club has to make a business decision that is right for their club.

"For so many reasons, he is important to Liverpool’s future and I think it would be fantastic if either the club or the player make a stand and ensure this deal doesn’t happen if Barcelona come in with a mega-money offer for Coutinho.

"Part of me fears all of that will be forgotten if Barcelona hand him the chance of a lifetime to go and play at the Nou Camp, but I join all Liverpool fans in hoping that doesn’t happen."
