Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave a big hint that he had a dream to join Liverpool after he played what turned out to be his final game for Arsenal last May.

After Oxlade-Chamberlain helped the Gunners beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley, he confirmed that he idolized Seven Gerrard and always wanted to play in a central midfield role.

Now it seems he has been offered a chance to live out that dream, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believed to have told his £35m signing that he will be handed a chance to prove himself in a central position after often being deployed in wide roles.

With BT Sport pundit Gerrard stood alongside him, Oxlade-Chamberlain made these comments on the pitch at Wembley.

“Playing for a team like Arsenal, it ends up being more of a right-wing job,” he said.

“I get the ball from deeper and the plays into my hands more. At the end of the day, it’s given me minutes and I’m not one to complain.

“But, the centre-mid role… I’ve always wanted to be Steven Gerrard, so I’ve still got a hope of that.”

Meanwhile, Independent.ie can confirm that Southampton will get a slice of the £35m fee Liverpool paid to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain as they have a sell-on clause in his contract after selling the player to Arsenal in 2011.

We have been told that the fee Southampton will receive is 'in excess of £2m', with Arsenal making a healthy profit on the £12m they paid to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain.
