CONFIRMED - Zlatan Ibrahimovic announces Man United return with image depicting him as Jesus Christ

The Swede confirmed he is to return to Manchester United with a typically grandiose message on social media.

Ibrahimovic was released by Manchester United after rupturing knee ligaments in Manchester United's Europa League quarter-final with Anderlecht.

But the 35-year-old has made miraculous progress in rehabilitation from injury and has now put pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

The striker, who will take the number ten shirt at Old Trafford, announced the deal with a tweet simply saying "I UNITED it @ManUtd."

Manchester United have since released a video showing Ibrahimovic donning the number ten jersey for the first time.

"I am back to finish what I started," said Ibrahimovic in a club statement released on Thursday afternoon.

"I am back to finish what I started. It was always mine and the club's intention for me to stay.

"I cannot wait to get back out on that Old Trafford pitch, but I also know that I have to take my time to make sure that I am ready.

"I have been working hard and will continue to do so to make sure I am in the best possible condition for my return to the pitch.”

Ibrahimovic was United's top goalscorer last season, scoring 27 times in all competitions before injury cut his season short in April.

The Swede could not link forced with Romelu Lukaku, who joined the club for £90m earlier this summer.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said he was 'delighted' to have the former Barcelona and PSG striker back at the club.

"We are delighted Zlatan is on the road to recovery and we are equally delighted to have his ambition and experience back with us.

"After his contribution last season he deserves our trust and we will be patient waiting for him to return. I have no doubt that he will be important in the second part of the season."
