Jose Mourinho made one lucky Manchester United fan's day on Tuesday night after giving away his Uefa Super Cup runners up medal.

Mourinho's Manchester United side were beaten 2-1 in Skopje, Macedonia, as Zinedine Zidane won his sixth major trophy as Real Madrid manager.

Romelu Lukaku's consolation goal in the 65th minute was not enough to prevent Real Madrid from inflicting Mourinho's third Super Cup defeat.

After the game Mourinho removed his runners up medal and handed it to a lucky boy in the stands.

"Sometimes when I win I don't keep the medal, so imagine when I lose," he explained in a press conference after the match.

"For me the medal would go to some place in my house, and for that kid it's for sure something he will keep and to remember.

"It was a little kid with a Man United shirt. I have no idea where he comes from.

"I think for the kid, it's something he will never forget.

"For me, medals - I repeat - when I win they don't mean much. Imagine when I lose."

Mourinho has a history of giving medals to fans. In 2006, the then Chelsea manager threw his winners' medal into the crowd following his second Premier League title triumph at the club.

He also gave away his winners' medal following Chelsea's 2015 Community Shield win over Arsenal.
