Jose Mourinho responds to Liverpool's Dejan Lovren after he threw accusations at Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku will face no further punishment after Football Association chiefs decided his clash with Lovren was accidental, yet the Liverpool centre-back offered an alternative version of events on Monday.

“My honest view was he did it on purpose,” stated Lovren. “Even if he didn’t do it, he would usually apologise, he was nervous during the game, that was also the reason. I cannot say I’m disappointed, it is what it is, we need to move on, that’s football.”

Mourinho responded to those comments in typically feisty manner, as he suggested Lovren’s comments lacked clarity as he defended his Belgian striker.

“You know, I read something but there is a big contradiction there because he says let's move on and forget what happened, but then he spends 10 minutes speaking about what he thinks happened and didn't happen,” stated Mourinho.

“So, for me, (they are) words without any meaning. The FA committee is there to analyse and make decisions, so no comment.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho admitted he has yet to decide on his starting line-up for the game against Benfica on Wednesday night, as he looks to plug some holes in his team in the absence of the injured quartet of Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick.

"I will not tell you the team," added Mourinho. "First because the players don’t know yet, and second, with so many injuries, I think that should be something that you can view with almost a guarantee of success, because our options are so few that it is easy for you to guess the XI."
