Manchester United transfer target Ivan Persic is set to sign a new contract with Inter Milan, according to Croatia coach Ante Cacic.

United manager Jose Mourinho made Perisic one of his top transfer targets this summer, yet reports last month that the two club’s had agreed a fee for the 28-year-old winger proved to be wide of the mark.

While Perisic gave hints on his social media platforms that he was keen to make a move to United, new Inter Milan coach Luciano Spalletti had been vocal in his eagerness to hang on to the player and it appears that this transfer saga is now dead after the comments of Croatian boss Cacic.

"I spoke to Ivan Perisic, he is happy at Inter," he declared in a press conference. "The coach appreciates him, they are preparing new contract for him."

Mourinho has declared himself satisfied with the club’s summer transfer trading, with Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof arriving at Old Trafford, while veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic signed a new contract with the club last week.

Mourinho has hinted that he may be interested in completing one more deal ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, but it does not appear that Perisic will be the player added to his squad list.
