Romelu Lukaku handed Manchester United a big boost ahead of Saturday’s game against Liverpool as he confirmed is back to full fitness by scoring for Belgium in their 4-0 win against Cyprus on Tuesday night.

Lukaku joined up with his international team-mates last week carrying an ankle problem that ruled him out of Saturday’s 4-3 win against Bosnia, in a game that saw United midfielder Marouane Fellaini pick up an knee ligament injury that will rule him out for the rest of October.

With Belgium already qualified for the World Cup finals, there was some concern that their head coach Roberto Martinez were rushing Lukaku back into action for a relatively meaningless game just a few days before United’s highly anticipated trip to Anfield.

Yet the in-form striker came off the bench 66 minutes into the qualifier in Brussles and he scored 12 minutes later, taking his stunning goal tally for this season to 16 goals in just 13 matches.

Powering past the final Cypriot defender and delivering a clinical finish, Lukaku suggested he was ready for United’s big test against Liverpool.

Chelsea will also have been encouraged to see Eden Hazard continuing his fine form with two goals in a convincing win for a Belgian side that are guaranteed to be ranked among the top seeds in the draw for the group stages of next summer’s World Cup finals that will take place on December 1st in Moscow.
