Ivan Perisic has been linked with Manchester United

Manchester United’s pursuit of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic may be about to reach a decisive moment, amid conflicting reports in Italy suggesting the Croatian winger is close to signing a new contract with the San Siro club.

Perisic appears to have been keen to push through a move to United this summer, with Jose Mourinho making no secret of his desire to sign a player who has been the subject of interest from the Premier League giants all summer.

Mourinho is reported to have met with Perisic in March as he tried to entice the player to Manchester, but there has been no agreement over a fee for the 28-year-old who is believed to have a valuation of around £50m.

Now Inter Milan have confirmed they are in talks with Persic over a new contract that would end United’s interest in the player, although reports in Italy suggest there is a stand-off over the wages being demanded by the player and his agent.

Perisic will be aware of the financial offer on the table from United and will doubtless want that to be matched if he is to commit his future to the Serie A club, with his agent Fali Ramadani clearly keeping his options open heading into the final month of the transfer window.

Perisic is believed to be demanding a new deal that will see him earn wages close to that being paid to Inter Milan star man Mauro Icardi, with this story set to have a few more twists before it is finally resolved.
