BLACKBURN Rovers Under-18s coach Billy Barr praised his side’s resilience as they came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 victory over Manchester United.

The result leaves Barr’s side fourth in the Northern Division of the Under-18s Premier League, and guaranteed a place in the season-ending play-offs.

Saturday’s result was the fifth time this season Rovers have come from behind to claim at least a point, and Barr was keen to acknowledge the fighting spirit shown once again by his side.

“I’ve said many times this season that we never know when we are beaten and it was another fine example of that,” Barr said.

“The lads have once again showed a tremendous spirit and determination to come back and win the game.” After a goalless first half in which Rovers twice hit the crossbar, it was United who took a 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from Ethan Hamilton and Aidan Barlow.

Rovers then turned the game on its head with two goals in eight minutes. In the 70th minute, Lewis Thompson raced clear to slot home, before substitutes Joel Curran and Alex Curran combined for the latter to draw Rovers level.

The turnaround was complete with 10 minutes left as, after United defender Jake Kenyon handled Frank Jones’ header on the line, another Rovers substitute, Bradley Lynch, converted the spot-kick.

Rovers conclude their regular season fixtures when they host Newcastle this afternoon (12.30pm).
