CONNOR Mahoney believes he is ready for the challenge of Premier League football having completed his move from Blackburn Rovers to Bournemouth.

The winger turned down a new contract at Ewood Park to join the Cherries with the clubs still to agree on a compensation figure. Should the two sides not be able to come to an agreement then the fee for Mahoney – who joined Rovers from Accrington Stanley in 2013 – will be set by an independent tribunal.

Mahoney is understood to have signed a four-year deal on the south coast and will join up with the club's Under-23 side.

But he is hopeful of making his mark with Eddie Howe's men.

“I think I’m ready to step up and challenge myself,” said Mahoney.

“I’m a young, hungry player, who wants to attack and get past my man.

“I like to get fans off their seat and I’m trying to make my way in the game.

“Working with Eddie Howe and his coaching staff will be a dream come true, so to be able to do that day in, day out will get the best out of me.”

Mahoney had been linked with a move to Championship clubs Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough but the Lancashire Telegraph revealed last week that Bournemouth had stolen a march in a bid to sign the talented attacker.

The move comes two years after Cherries boss Howe raided Rovers for Josh King, with the Norwegian finishing last season in red hot form, scoring 13 goals in his last 17 Premier League games.

And Howe is pleased with his latest East Lancashire recruit.

He said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Connor to the football club.

“He is a player we have very high hopes for. He has a lot of potential and hopefully it will be a really good deal for both him and us.

“He put in a number of eye-catching appearances for Blackburn in a short space of time at the end of last season, so we quickly evaluated the situation and made a move for him.

“There’s a lot more to come from him and we will look to develop his talent.”

Mahoney leaves Rovers having played 20 times, 11 of which have come since Tony Mowbray replaced Owen Coyle in February.
