Simon Mignolet was delighted to see Liverpool produce the perfect response to last week's disappointment at Tottenham by beating Huddersfield Town convincingly at Anfield.

Coming into Saturday's game off the back of a chastening 4-1 defeat at Wembley, the Reds found themselves unable to get going during a frustrating first half against David Wagner's side.

However, three second-half goals earned the hosts 3-0 win and, according to Mignolet, exorcised the ghosts of a day to forget against Spurs.

"After last week of course everybody was down and everybody knew we had to change something," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"But the only way to do that is by stepping onto the pitch and [putting in] a good performance so everybody was really eager to do that today.

"It’s never easy because you know you’re going to be playing against a team who are going to be negative and you have to find the opening and the play is always going to be a bit edgy.

"But we kept our nerve and we deserve to be winners tonight."

LFCTV GO: Mignolet reflects on Huddersfield win

The Belgian heralded Daniel Sturridge's opening goal as a moment of 'release' for a team who felt under pressure to break down obstinate opposition.

"Obviously Huddersfield sit back and it’s never easy to create," he added.

"That moment we had the penalty was of course a big chance but after that I think when we came out the dressing room and Daniel Sturridge got his goal it gave all the boys a lift in confidence.

"They felt a bit of a release and then everybody could play freely and we could score three goals which is nice. It was a good victory and a clean sheet."

And Mignolet believes the show of clinical finishing from the Reds in the aftermath of Sturridge's vital breakthrough will do wonders for confidence going forward.

He explained: "It’s always very important when you get those chances to score.

"Like I said when you get the first and second the football comes freely, then you can play your style, how you want to do it and everything becomes a lot more natural.

"It’s good for the boys and I think today will give everybody a lift in confidence which is what we needed after last week.

"Everybody knew it wasn’t good enough and we had to change and respond in the right manner and I think we’ve done that."
