Antonio Conte's decision to drop David Luiz from his team to face Manchester United could come back to haunt him, believes Gary Neville.

Conte left the Brazilian out of his Chelsea side and was rewarded with victory courtesy of Alvaro Morata's second-half header.

But Neville reckons the debate is far from settled.

Speaking on Sky Sports , the former Manchester United star said: "Every manager who has taken on the players here has gone pretty quickly.

"It is a big call because if you take on these players in that dressing room, where David Luiz is a big influence, a big character, you can lose at this club. This is not the end of this — this is the start.

"Conte has won today, but in two or three weeks’ time if David Luiz is still sat on that bench, every time they concede a goal, the cameras will flip to David Luiz. It was the same with John Terry."

Conte also fell out with striker Diego Costa who left the club to return to Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea's win over Jose Mourinho's men saw them narrow the gap on league leaders Manchester City to nine points.

United remain a point better off than the Stamford Bridge side.
