Jose Mourinho wants a £3million-a-year pay hike on his current deal at Manchester United .
Mourinho believes that he deserves a rise on his £12million-a-year salary and his agent Jorge Mendes has New Year talks planned with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward.
The United boss has landed three trophies in his first season in charge at Old Trafford and has got the club back into the money-spinning Champions League.
Having won the Europa League (right), the League Cup and Community Shield in his first year at United, Mourinho has overseen a strong start to the current campaign.
Second-placed United sit five points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League and are almost certain of a place in the Champions League knock-out phase after four straight group stage wins.
That means another bumper windfall for the club – and Mourinho wants his slice.
By winning the Europa League in May to qualify for the Champions League, the Portuguese coach made sure United hit their performance targets with lead sponsors Adidas and Chevrolet.
Mourinho has seen at close quarters the full extent of United’s money-making machine and knows he contributed to the bulging bank balance with his trophy haul.
In September the club announced record revenues during Mourinho’s debut season at the club with a staggering turnover of £581.2million and an operating profit of £80.8m.
United’s Europa League triumph over Ajax in Stockholm contributed to a £53.7m increase in TV money to £194.1million.
Mourinho - who takes his stars to his former club Chelsea today - was recently linked with a move to Paris St Germain after talking up the “special” project at the French club.
But Mourinho insisted last night he’s happy at Manchester United.
The United boss has raised doubts about his future by criticising his players and the Old Trafford fans in recent weeks.
He said: “I am happy here – and I love my players.
“You try to create a story because of my words after defeat at Huddersfield - but there is no story.
“I was not speaking with Ander Herrera any more? Ander Herrera is the kind of player I have to push him away because he wants to speak with me all the time!
“I don’t know where they get these kinds of stories.
“So yes, I am happy.
“It has just been a difficult week. Big matches, injuries, tiredness...but that is just normal.”
He also hinted that becoming coach of Paris St Germain would be an ideal next career move.
And whispers that Mourinho is frustrated that United have failed to reward him for winning the Europa League, League Cup and Community Shield in his first season at the club by handing him a new contract also continue to linger.
But the former Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss has spoken out to dismiss suggestions that he is paving the way for an early departure from Manchester.
