Liverpool were held by a spirited Burnley side on a frustrating afternoon for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Philippe Coutinho returned to the starting line-up as the hosts made seven changes from the XI that flopped against Manchester City.

Scott Arfield opened the scoring for the Clarets after 27 minutes with a crisp finish on one of their rare ventures forward.

Their lead would only last three minutes though, as Mohamed Salah would fire past Premier League debutant Nick Pope just three minutes later.

Klopp's men pressed for a winner, with substitute Dominic Solanke's side-footed shot against the bar the closest they would get.

Recap all of the action as it happened right here.

Early team news

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is unavailable for the visit of Burnley as he starts a three-match suspension.

Playmaker Philippe Coutinho could take his place in the starting line-up after making his comeback from a back injury in the their midweek Champions League draw with Sevilla.

Manager Jurgen Klopp may also opt to swap his full-backs with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson coming in.

Nick Pope will start in goal for Burnley, meanwhile, after Tom Heaton underwent surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

Pope will make his first ever top-flight start as Heaton, who has only missed three league games over the previous four seasons, faces months out with an injury sustained in last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace.

Clarets manager Sean Dyche is hoping Jeff Hendrick (thigh) can make his comeback after he trained fully on Thursday but Dean Marney (knee) remains a long-term absentee.
