UEFA have turned down a demand from La Liga that they investigate Manchester City over a potential breach of Financial Fair Play rules.
UEFA have received a letter signed by La Liga President Javier Tebas , calling for its investigation ito Paris Saint-Germain’s summer spending to be widened to include City, who spent £217million in the last window.
PSG signed Neymar from Barcelona for a world record fee of £198m and Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe on loan, with an obligation to buy the France prodigy for £168m next summer.
Tebas claimed City, owned by the Abu Dhabi-backed City Football Group and PSG, sponsored by the Qatar government, both “benefit from sponsorships that make no economic sense and lack any fair value.”
The statement also called on UEFA to “proceed with its investigation, taking into account the full history of PSG’s actions. Additionally, La Liga calls on UEFA to open a similar investigation into Manchester City.”
City embarked on a huge summer spend that saw then buy Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Danilo, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy for a combined outay of £217m. But their net spend was around £133m as the club made an estimated £93m from player sales.
Despite the call from Spain for City to be investigated, a UEFA spokesperson said: “There’s no investigation into Manchester City with regards to FFP regulations. Any reports mentioning such an investigation are unsubstantiated.”
