Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score twice as Chelsea fought back from behind to win a six-goal thriller against Watford.

Chelsea were on the back foot for much of this contest at Stamford Bridge but two goals from Batshuayi, either side of an 87th-minute header from Cesar Azpilicueta, snatched the champions a much-needed 4-2 victory.

For a while, Chelsea looked on course for a third straight Premier League loss when Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra's goals put Watford 2-1 up before Batshuayi and then Azpilicueta instigated the turnaround. Batshuayi added his second in stoppage time.

Chelsea also had the officials to thank after Pedro's opener, a superb long-range strike, came from a corner that should not have been given.

In a word, that was magnificent from Pedro.

Only his second goal of the season and one to savour.

Watford had started confidently but Chelsea have been in control since the goal.

Couldn’t have placed that much better if he had tried.

The ball is always curling away, but not enough for the statuesque Gomes.

Welcome

Antonio Conte retains his confidence in his abilities — even if his Chelsea bosses are losing theirs.

The under-pressure Italian heads into Saturday’s lunchtime clash at home to a Watford who beat Arsenal last weekend, needing victory after going three games without a win.

The defending champions are nine points off Premier League leaders Manchester City, were beaten by rock-bottom, pointless, goalless Crystal Palace last week and blew a 2-0 lead at home to Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Manager Conte is adamant the title race is not over, despite City’s impressive winning streak. But he refused to confirm, on a number of occasions, that he retains the faith of the Chelsea hierarchy.

He said: “The support is my job, my work. This is only my support. I know only this support, in my experience.

“I don’t know other support. To put all myself into the job — if this is enough, it’s OK. If it’s not enough...”

Asked whether he had been backed by owner Roman Abramovich, Conte was again non-committal.
