Steve Mounie picked the perfect moment to rediscover his goalscoring touch to end Huddersfield’s four-match losing streak.

Mounie marked his return to Town’s starting line-up by scoring twice against Brighton - his first goals since his double at Crystal Palace on the opening day of the campaign four months ago.

Huddersfield’s impressive win, which was watched by Gareth Southgate, lifted them away from the drop zone and it was only their third Premier League victory in 14 games.

Brighton were awful and appeared hung over from last week’s traumatic five-goal mauling by Liverpool.

Chris Hughton’s side showed none of their normal defensive solidity, while posing little threat up top, and they have taken just two points from their last five league games.

Mounie’s first after 12 minutes will not win Goal of the Month and Town’s record £11.5million striker knocked Christopher Schindler’s flick-on from Chris Lowe’s corner home with his thigh.

His second two minutes before half-time also came from a corner and when Brighton failed to clear their lines, Aaron Mooy floated the ball back in for Mathias Jorgensen to nod it on for the Benin hitman to head home.

Welcome

Huddersfield boss David Wagner is likely to have an unchanged squad to choose from with Martin Cranie hopeful of recovering from a minor ankle problem.

Wagner remains without Rajiv van La Parra however, with the ex-Wolves winger serving the final game of a three-match ban.

Michael Hefele, Philip Billing and Jon Gorenc Stankovic remain injured also.

Brighton have no new fitness concerns for Saturday’s game, and Chris Hughton’s men will look to bounce back immediately after last weekend’s 5-1 thrashing by Liverpool.

Experienced midfielder Steve Sidwell is still sidelined by a back problem but apart from him, Chris Hughton has been given a clean bill of health.

Huddersfield have slipped to 16th since their excellent opening month, while the Seagulls are 12th with just two points more.
