So much for a Liverpool crisis.

The drama that has built for so much of this week at Anfield, following an error-strewn horror show at Wembley, would suggest Jurgen Klopp was clinging onto his job.

The reality of course, in a Premier League where the wealth gap is growing by the day, is that Huddersfield at home is never likely to be a severe test for a defence that has been written off by the Reds faithful.

And so it proved, on a routine almost mundane afternoon, where Klopp's side survived a missed penalty from Mo Salah, and the much maligned Dejan Lovren limping out of the game even before kick off...though some would say that was a blessing, not a blow.

After a laboured first half, the Anfield team went up through their gears, with a fine finish from Daniel Sturridge – reminding everyone of his quality – paving the way for a comfortable, confidence boosting victory.

Further goals from the impressive Roberto Firmino and then an impressive strike from Giorginio Wijnaldum sealed the game for Klopp, and allowed him bragging rights over his close friend David Wagner.

The Germans hugged at the end, with Wagner perhaps acknowledging that he always faced a near impossible job trying to recreate the heroics his side displayed against Manchester United last week, given the financial disparity between these two historically linked clubs.

Klopp's half-time team talk clearly worked

First Sturridge then Firmino. Whatever Klopp said at half-time clearly had an impact on his stars.

Liverpool now lead Huddersfield 2-0 at home and are in cruise control.

Half-time: Liverpool 0-0 Huddersfield

A goalless half and Liverpool’s fans are not happy.

The Reds did have a penalty but Salah’s spot kick was saved by Lossl.

That was really the only action of the half and the home fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration...

Howdy folks...

Greetings one and all, and welcome to Mirror Football’s live coverage of Huddersfield Town’s trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool.

The Terriers could name the same starting XI that beat Manchester United last weekend, after forward Elias Kachunga was passed fit following a back problem, while Colin Quaner is also available again.

For the hosts, Philippe Coutinho is the big doubt with an adductor problem. Georginio Wijnaldum has recovered from a knee problem though.

All eyes will be on Jurgen Klopp’s defence though, with Dejan Lovren could miss out after playing through the pain barrier last weekend against Spurs, with Simon Mignolet’s place also in doubt after the 4-1 loss at Wembley.

Klopp and Town boss David Wagner are close friends and the Reds boss is looking forward to locking horns with his pal.

I am happy we play against each other in the Premier League. It’s exciting 100 percent.

“Our friendship will last for the rest of our lives but I want to win this game. It will be the same for him. I’ve said the worst things to David than anyone else in the world and we’re still friends.”
