'The Christian Eriksen' team broke Tottenham’s Wembley duck and upstaged their apparent only player Harry Kane in a 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Spurs' Golden Boot holder failed to add to his 11 goals in his last six as Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggled to break down stubborn Bournemouth.

But in-form Eriksen underlined his manager’s insistence they they are not solely dependent on Harry Kane, despite a jibe to the contrary from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Eriksen’s 47th-minute strike was his fourth in his last five games for club and country to grab Tottenham’s first Premier League win at the national stadium.

Son Heung Min teed him up with a ball in from the right. Eriksen then rode a tackle from Simon Francis before sending a low effort past Asmir Begovic into the bottom corner.

Soon afterwards Kane had an effort ruled out for offside before Begovic twice denied him from close range.

Referee Bobby Madley incorrectly denied Kane a penalty in the 56rd minute when the England striker was dragged down by two players in the Bournemouth box.

Then Spurs fans were left in their hearts in their mouths as substitute Jermain Defoe forced a fine save from Hugo Lloris at his near post.

Dele Alli headed wide with the goal at his mercy in the dying minutes before Madley blundered again late on, booking Begovic for a late on substitute Georges-Kevin Nkoudou when the Bournemouth keeper had made won the ball.

It was Eriksen who took the ball route one at the Bournemouth defence.

There was more of a pinball effect than any sort of fancy feet and it fell for him.

The finish was a gratefully accepted chance, guided into the back of the net with his left boot.
