West Ham got their first away point of the season as Albion's Gareth Barry equalled the Premier League appearance record.

The visitors just shaded a tight game at The Hawthorns where Pedro Obiang hit the bar with an outrageous long-range effort.

Albion midfielder Barry, 36, made his 362 Premier League appearance to draw level with Ryan Giggs.

He will now create a new record if he plays at Arsenal a week on Monday.

West Brom nearly took the lead in the 12 minute when Chris Brunt's deflected cross fell for full debutant Kieran Gibbs whose volley was blocked.

At the other end Michail Antonio tested Ben Foster with a low right-foot shot from distance after a determined run.

While Hammers' midfielder Obiang hit the bar with a stunning long-range effort from near the centre circle after spotting Foster off his line. But the hosts continued to create chances as James Morrison put a header wide.

After the break, home shot-stopper Foster escaped with a yellow for bringing down Chicharito outside the box as Albion had men back covering.

The visitors' best hope of victory appeared to lie in Andy Carroll, who looked fuming to be replaced late on by Diafra Sakho.

Early team news

Nacer Chadli and Oliver Burke are doubts for West Brom ahead of Saturday’s visit of West Ham.

Winger Burke has had a scan on a hamstring injury and will be assessed while boss Tony Pulis remained tight-lipped on Chadli’s problem.

Hal Robson-Kanu is available again after a ban and Gareth McAuley has recovered from a thigh injury while Gareth Barry will equal Ryan Giggs’ Premier League appearance record of 632 games if he features.

West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic is back from suspension and available, meanwhile.

Arnautovic is in contention again after serving his three-match ban but Mark Noble is out with a knock to his knee.

The match will also come too soon for Edimilson Fernandes and Manuel Lanzini who are recovering from ankle and knee injuries respectively.
