Alexis Sanchez got a mixed reception as Arsenal restored some much needed pride with a comfortable victory.

Arsenal forward Sanchez came on as a 75th minute substitute and got boos as well as cheers after his transfer saga this summer.

Sanchez replaced man-of-the-match Danny Welbeck who scored twice and set up the other for Alexandre Lacazette who scored a sensational 25 yard strike.

Bournemouth were awful and the closest they came was when Jermain Defoe headed against the post but the score would have been heavier but for keeper Asmir Begovic.

Arsenal finished the game with ten men as Francis Coquelin limped off after 81 minutes with Arsene Wenger having used all his substitutes.

Here are some key talking points from the game.

1. Danny Welbeck - what a response

Two goals and an assist. Another effort just inches away from what would have been a sublime chip to complete a hat trick.

Welbeck was hit with some flak after his performance at Liverpool.

But this was a powerful response, full of energy and determination.

Welbeck edged it as man of the match from some good performances. Sead Kolasinac was terrific. Even Shkodran Mustafi looked good. But Welbeck was terrific.

2. Bournemouth are worryingly poor

Whisper it quietly but Bournemouth look relegation fodder on this evidence.

Let’s face it, we all love Bournemouth (bar Portsmouth and Southampton fans, I suspect), Eddie Howe and they’ve made steady progression each season.

But, having bought good Premier League players in Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake and Germain Defoe, we expected them to take a leap forward this season.

If anything, they have gone backwards, look very poor and are in trouble after four straight defeats.

3. Arsenal fans singing again

Make no mistake, this was a must-win game. The mood was venomous and depressing after the thrashing at Liverpool when it was as bad a performance as anything under Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal responded under pressure with a focused and determined performance. But what was really noticeable was, at 3-0 early in the second half, the chant of “Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal” rang around the Emirates.

It was as if Anfield never happened. There are underlying problems at Arsenal but it’s amazing what one result can do to lift the mood.

4. Pre-match meeting

Much was made of a pre-match meeting between Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis and several fan groups.

Fair play to Arsenal and Gazidis for having dialogue with fans (not all clubs do), but there were no fireworks and not even another “catalyst for change” soundbite headline.

Grumblings and moans about the transfer window, ticketing and Arsene Wenger. But far from being nuclear. Then the result lifted the mood.

5. Sanchez makes his return

Left on the bench after returning late from international duty with Chile, it was the sensible thing for Arsene Wenger to do and what he normally does after long trips.

But when he came on as a 75th minute substitute, there were a lot of boos mixed in with the cheers.

Very interesting - some fans clearly not happy about his antics in the summer.

Arsenal fans did sing his name soon afterwards, but he’s clearly got to win some of them around.
