Manchester City extended their winning streak to 18 games thank to a late lucky winner though Raheem Sterling against game Huddersfield.

Gabriel Jesus’ shot was parried by Jonas Lossl and the ball rebounded off Sterling into the net six minutes from time.

That was tough on Huddersfield who took the lead just before half-time through Nicolas Otamendi’s own goal.

City missed earlier chances and Sergio Aguero was denied by Jonas Lossl, Otamendi fired over while Fernandinho also failed the target.

Huddersfield soaked up their pressure and Mathias Jorgensen steered a shot wide when he should have scored before Vincent Kompany headed narrowly over his own bar.

City swung in the corner in first-half stoppage time and Christopher Schindler’s flick-on went in off the hapless Otamendi.

City’s response was immediate after the interval and Sterling might have had a penalty when he was felled by Lossl.

But referee Craig Pawson did point to the spot when Scott Malone pulled down Sterling seconds later and Aguero dispatched it for his 11th goal of the season.

City maintained the pressure and Leroy Sane curled a 20-yard free-kick against the bar, before the Blues struck again to re-open their eight-point lead and make the best start ever to a Premier League season.

To compound Huddersfield's misery, Rajiv van La Parra was sent off after the final whistle following an altercation with Sane.

Pep on keeping Aguero and Jesus happy

Pep Guardiola admits he’s got double trouble keeping strikers Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus happy.

But the Manchester City boss insists their “amazing relationship” means the South American’s are still friends despite being fierce rivals for the shirt.

The Manchester City duo have rotated striking duties in recent weeks with boss Guardiola admitting it’s difficult to play the pair together without cruciate ligament victim Benjamin Mendy in the team to create the right balance.

And the Spanish super-coach has confessed it’s the toughest selection headache he’s got trying to man-manage the fall out when he chooses one over the other.

Ederson not underestimating Huddersfield

Manchester City will face a tough challenge when they travel to Huddersfield Town on Sunday but have the strength to continue their stellar winning run, goalkeeper Ederson has said.

City are on a 17-game winning streak across all competitions, opening an eight-point lead at the top of the league standings and progressing to the Champions League knockout stages as group winners.

Huddersfield are 10th with just one home defeat in six league games and ended second-placed Manchester United’s unbeaten start at John Smith’s Stadium last month but Ederson believes City will not suffer the same fate.

“It’s going to be a difficult away game for us, just as Brighton, Bournemouth and Leicester were, but I believe that our team is focused and well prepared to go there and fight for another win,” Ederson told the club’s website.
