Manchester City scored yet another late winner to equal the Premier League record for successive victories.

David Silva popped up with the decisive goal seven minutes from time to complete City’s comeback against West Ham and notch up their 13th straight victory.

They have now equalled the Premier League tally set by Arsenal in 2001-02 and Chelsea last season to give them the perfect boost to go into next Sunday’s Manchester derby.

West Ham frustrated City with their suffocating 5-4-1 formation and took the lead on 44 minutes when Angelo Ogbonna headed home the first league goal of his career.

Pep Guardiola brought on Gabriel Jesus at half-time in response to his side’s lacklustre display and the Brazilian set up Nicolas Otamendi to equalise on 57 minutes.

City pushed for a winner and just when it seemed West Ham would get the point they deserved for their fine display, Silva struck in the 83rd minute to push them eight points clear at the top again.

MATCH REPORT - 5 talking points

Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva came to the rescue for Manchester City as the Blues were forced to come from behind against West Ham.

Angelo Ogbonna had given the visitors a shock lead in the first half as the Premier League table-toppers struggled to hit their straps.

But Pep Guardiola changed it at the break by introducing Gabriel Jesus in place of Danilo, and the hosts turned the game on its head.

Otamendi turned home from Jesus’ cross, before Kevin De Bruyne’s sumptuous lobbed through ball was steered into the bottom corner by Silva.

Here are five talking points from the Etihad...

FULL TIME: Manchester City 2-1 West Ham

It is 13 wins in a row for Manchester City in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s men had to work for it, but they’ve extended their lead atop the table to eight points.

They were made to work by David Moyes’ side, and weren’t anywhere near their best.

Angelo Ogbonna’s goal on the stroke of half-time spurred them into life.

And after Nicolas Otamendi’s leveller, skipper David Silva’s brilliant acrobatic effort gave City victory.

GOAL! Manchester City 2-1 West Ham (Silva)

Seven minutes to go and Manchester City have the lead.

It’s Kevin de Bruyne who has put the bullet in the chamber, and David Silva who has taken the shot.

Adrian has been in excellent form but there’s nothing he could do about this.

A delicious cross from De Bruyne - touch out his feet, clipped from an inside right position - and Silva, round the back, volleys home.

Exceptional. City finally lead.

Man City 2-1 West Ham

Sane looking increasingly important

Leroy Sane is looking increasingly important to City here.

The German winger has the beating of Pablo Zabaleta, who is petrified of his speed.

Sane has had a couple of fierce efforts on goal and West Ham are standing off the ex-Schalke flier.

He looks the most likely route to goal right now.

I think the goal meant a lot to Nico Otamendi.

In fact, I’m certain it did!

22 minutes remaining. Can City get a winner?

GOAL! Man City 1-1 West Ham (Otamendi)

It’s taken 11 minutes into the second half and Manchester City are level.

And of all the players to find the net, it’s Nicolas Otamendi.

Adrian had just made a fine save from De Bruyne, but after the rebound was worked wide, Gabriel Jesus fired over a low cross and Otamendi got in front of Rice to toe home.

1-1...game on!

HALF TIME: Man City 0-1 West Ham

Pep Guardiola is likely to have some very stern words for his side.

City have been lackadaisical, lethargic, aren’t moving the ball well, are creating little.

West Ham haven’t been stretched at all and the Hammers haven’t offered much going forward.

That is, apart from one set piece. City’s marking was terrible, a decent cross, and Angelo Ogbonna has David Moyes’ side in front.

A real surprise here.

Can they hold on? We’ll find out in the second half.

GOAL! Manchester City 0-1 West Ham (Ogbonna)

Well that’s a turn up for the books!

After a poor performance City have been punished.

They’ve been sluggish and now poor marking at a set-piece sees Angelo Ogbonna turn home and the Hammers are in front!

West Ham LEAD at the Etihad.

Still 0-0.

Mike Dean getting booed as West Ham waste time.

City, not really testing Adrian.
Pep Guardiola can’t be happy with what he’s witnessing.

It's Moyesy!

So far so good.

But you’ve got to expect that eventually, City step this up and take over.

If it continues being attack vs defence, it’s only a matter of time.

20' gone

Well those expecting West Ham to crack early have been disappointed.

The Hammers are standing firm, but you feel City have a lot more to give.

They’re barely out of second gear the hosts, and Pep Guardiola’s frustrations are beginning to show on the touchline.

This man could be in for a busy day today.

The Spaniard has been stuck playing back up to Joe Hart this season.
But Hart can’t play against his parent club.

So Adrian is back between the sticks for the Hammers at the Etihad.

City fans will certainly expect today.

Destroying everyone in sight so far this season (Everton and Wolves excepted).

You can almost get the same price with bookmakers today on West Ham winning 1-0 as you can City winning 8-0.

Which do you think is more likely?

West Ham will hand a late fitness test to defender Winston Reid ahead of the game.

The New Zealand centre-back came off with an injury during Wednesday’s 4-0 loss at Everton and will be checked on Saturday.

Welcome...

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City cannot be considered a great team until they have lifted the Premier League trophy, according to West Ham boss David Moyes.

Free-scoring City have been in scintillating form this season, racking up 13 wins and a draw from 14 games to build an eight-point advantage at the top of the table.

Moyes’ struggling Hammers have the unenviable task of playing at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and, while the Scot has been impressed with the current

City squad, he believes they must clinch silverware to justify recent hype and confirm their reputation as an outstanding side.

“I wouldn’t say they’ve got a long way to go but what I would say is they’ve not done anything yet as far as they’ve not won the Premiership yet,” ex-Manchester United manager Moyes said.

“And I think there’s been some great teams in the Premier League who have won it over the years.

“Maybe at the end people will say they are a great team but until that’s done then you can’t really say so.”

West Ham’s fortunes have so far failed to improve since former Sunderland boss Moyes replaced the sacked Slaven Bilic early last month.

They have picked up only a point in three matches under the 54-year-old ahead of tricky run of fixtures which sees them face successive home games against London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal following the trip to City.

Moyes, who remains optimistic about moving his 18th-placed side away from relegation danger, feels unbeaten City do have some weaknesses which could potentially be exploited.

“I don’t think they’re completely unflappable with what they’ve got,” he said.

“I think there are ways to play against them, I think they’ve got weaknesses.

“They play very high up the pitch, which can leave space in behind them.

“But I think the coach (Guardiola) admits to his frailties and knows what the weaknesses are but tries to make it so difficult for the opposition to get to their weaknesses.”
