Liverpool were held for the second successive Champions League game as they could only manage a draw in Moscow.

The Reds dominated possession against Spartak but had to settle for a point.

Spartak took an unlikely lead through Fernando's free-kick before Philippe Coutinho levelled.

Liverpool pushed for a winner but failed to find a way through with sub keeper Selikhov denying Salah in added time.

Here are five key talking points.

1. The Fab Four start

Despite having failed to start together so far, Liverpool's attacking quarter have already adopted the same nickname as the city's favourite sons.

But in Moscow, Klopp deployed Coutinho, Mane, Salah and Firmino from the start.

Coutinho started in a deeper role as Georginio Wijnaldum missed out.

The Dutchman's absence certainly meant there was less protection for the Liverpool defence - but they looked dangerous every time they attacked.

It's a real conundrum for Klopp as he looks for the best system going forward from here.

2. Karius won't be No.1 anytime soon

Simon Mignolet might have bailed Liverpool out at Leicester but before his penalty save, he had a shocker.

Loris Karius, who looks set to get the nod for the Champions League, was back in in Moscow.

Before the game he spoke about taking his chance.

Disappointingly for the German, he didn't.

On first viewing, Fernando's free-kick appeared a stunner. After a replay or two, it was evident Karius should have done much more.

After that, he didn't have too much to do but he's no closer to taking that No.1 shirt.

3. Coutinho back on song

Plenty of us wondered how Philippe Coutinho would react to his proposed move to Barcelona falling through.

Would he sulk or would he knuckle down.

In the last two games, it has certainly been a case of the latter.

He was excellent against Leicester and notched his second goal in as many games to level the scores in Moscow.

With him in the team, Liverpool are just that bit more classy.

4. Can discipline must improve

With Klopp opting to start Coutinho in midfield, there was a lot of emphasis on Jordan Henderson and Emre Can to hold.

While the Liverpool skipper can be relied upon to do his job to the letter, the same cannot be said for Can.

The German has many qualities but he lacks the discipline to play in a deep two.

No wonder Naby Keita was in such high demand.

5. Wait for away day win continues

They haven't played too many Champions League matches in the last eight years but Liverpool's record on the road isn't good enough.

Their last success away from Anfield came on November 24 2009, beating Debrecen 1-0.

If they are to progress to the knockout stages, they must win against Maribor - and will probably need something in Seville, too.
