Harry Kane's cheeky finish rescued a late point for Spurs.

The England striker poked a close range effort through the legs of West Brom keeper Ben Foster from Dele Alli’s delightful cross.

The goal, Kane’s 40th in 39 competitive appearances for Spurs this year, came 17 minutes from time to calm an anxious Wembley. But the dropped points - the club’s third home draw of the season - saw Mauricio Pochettino’s men lose more ground on the leaders.

The majority of the home crowd had been left stunned after just four minutes when the managerless Baggies took a shock lead.

Salomon Rondon raced on to Jake Livermore’s pass but appeared to be snuffed out by the normally reliable Davinson Sanchez. Rondon, however, managed to squeeze through a diagonal shot which trickled past keeper Hugo Lloris.

Spurs responded by dominating the play as Gary Megson’s side laid down the challenge to break them down.

Son Heung Min had a shot parried from distance on on 31 minutes. Foster went on to hold an Eric Dier header five minutes before the break and Son sent an effort across the six yard box but neither Kane nor Alli could reach it.

In the second half Matt Phillips left Spurs hearts in mouths when he flashed a shot across goal ten minutes after half time.

Spurs went on to dominate but Rondon blew the chance to cause a massive upset in the final minute of added time. The striker turned his shot wide when he should have scored from Phillips’ ball in from the right.

Megson up for the challenge

Caretaker West Brom boss Gary Megson wants “bouncy people” around the training ground as the team look to move on from the sacking of Tony Pulis.

Megson, who managed the Baggies between 2000 and 2004, has been put in charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis and is preparing the squad for Saturday’s trip to face Tottenham at Wembley.

However, the new backroom set-up has left no hands on role for assistant head coach Ben Garner, who had also worked with Pulis at Crystal Palace.

Megson, though, insisted there was “never a cross word” between the pair as everyone looked to move forwards.

“From my own point of view, on Monday they told me what had happened with Tony and I would be charge in the interim. From that moment on, you switch into what you’ve done in the past,” Megson said.
