Adam Lallana believes Daniel Sturridge will be a vital player for Liverpool this season.

Sturridge endured a number of injury problems last term, making just seven starts in the Premier League.

But he has played in all five pre-season friendlies this summer and Lallana believes he is ready to make an impact when the action gets underway, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“Listen, Studge has been absolutely brilliant in pre-season so far,” Lallana said.

“He is looking really sharp and to have him firing on all cylinders would be like having two new signings if we can keep on the pitch and get him scoring goals.

“He is a world class player. He has come back from the summer looking absolutely brilliant, so fit.

“He is going to be a massive player for us this season. I can feel it. You couldn’t put a price on him.

“Every footballer gets injuries – Jordan (Henderson) has had a tough couple of years. We all have to deal with it at some stage in our career.”

The emphatic victory over Hertha was the perfect warm-up for Tuesday night's Audi Cup clash with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Lallana says the contest at the Olympiastadion underlined the greater competition for places going forward this term.

He lined up in midfield with Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum as Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Dominic Solanke formed a front three.

The second half saw the introduction of captain Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sturridge, as well as youngsters Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent.

Klopp also has Divock Origi, Danny Ings, Marko Grujic and Ben Woodburn to call upon.

Liverpool may be resigned to missing out on RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita this summer but Lallana is excited about what this squad could achieve.

“I want the best players to be linked with Liverpool and coming to Liverpool,” he said.

“If you are talking about it from a personal point of view, the pressure to get better and the competition for places is healthy. That is what we need.

“At times last year, our bench probably wasn’t as strong as we would have liked it to be.

“If we are going to achieve something, we are going to need a strong bench. We need a strong squad and players need to be on their toes. It is all good.

“I think there are 30 players out here with the three goalkeepers and a few young lads. That is a hell of a lot of players.

“You only have to look at the subs that he makes. He is now replacing pace with pace and goals with goals.

“We have got plenty of options and if we keep everyone fit, who knows what could happen?”

With the versatility of top talents like Salah, Mane and Coutinho, the final stages of pre-season are about fine-tuning and Klopp ensuring he gets the balance right ahead of the Premier League opener at Watford on August 12.

“That’s exactly it,” Lallana said.

“Philippe can play in different positions - he can play central and out wide.

“Sadio can play on the left or the right. It is only little tweaks. It’s similar to me, I used to play out wide and I now play more central.

“It’s not major surgery, you’re right. It’s little tweaks. We are looking good at the minute.”
