Alexandre Lacazette has "every right" to confront Arsene Wenger about being left on the bench for Arsenal's 3-1 defeat by Manchester City, claims Alan Shearer.

Lacazette came on for Francis Coquelin 10 minutes into the second half after the Gunners fell behind 2-0.

Within three minutes the Frenchman had a yellow card and six minutes later gave his side hope with their only goal of the game.

England and Newcastle legend Shearer has seen enough of Lacazette to think he should question his veteran manager's use of him.

"He left him out at Anfield and again today, against your rivals," Shearer said on Match of the Day 2.

"You spend £50m on a striker and think he will make the difference in the big games.

"He has scored six league goals, more than double anyone else in that Arsenal team.

"He played Sanchez today, who doesn't want to commit himself to the football club, what does that say to Lacazette and his teammates?

"He has got every right to go and knock on Wenger's door tomorrow and say 'Do you not fancy me or something?'

Ian Wright, also on MOTD2, also has sympathy for Lacazette.

"I feel for him, he has only finished 90 minutes once," he said.

"He must be thinking 'what do I need to do to get in this team?' Especially with how poorly Sanchez played.

"He can take a half-chance. He only played up front for 22 minutes then they brought Giroud on.

"It must be so frustrating for him."

Gunners fans are on Lacazette's side too.

Before the match many were voicing their disapproval with Wenger's team selection, with Coquelin starting despite failing to impress in the Europa League during the week.

He was joined by Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey in the middle of the park, while Sead Kolasinac takes up his place in left-back.

There were fears the Bosnian, who has been a stand out player for the Gunners this season, would miss the fixture through injury, but he lines up in a four-man defence.

Wenger has apparently shifted his formation around to provide extra cover for Petr Cech, naming Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny and Hector Bellerin alongside Kolasinac.

Up front Wenger has opted to leave out Alexandre Lacazette, and has picked Alex Iwobi to play alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners splashed out £52million on the Frenchman in the summer, but he has so far played a full 90 minutes in the league just once under Wenger this season. And it seems fans are starting to lose patience.
