Arsenal legend Martin Keown says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain "has no excuse but to deliver" for Liverpool, after completing a £40million summer move to Anfield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain snubbed the chance to join Chelsea during the transfer window, opting instead to agree terms with Jurgen Klopp's Reds.

According to the England international the prospect of playing in a more central position at Liverpool appealed to him more than being deployed as a wing-back, where it is believed Antonio Conte wanted to play him.

Discussing the former Arsenal star, Keown is confident he does have the ability to cement a place in the Reds' first team, despite their brilliant start to the season.

But says the pressure is now on the 24-year-old to start delivering on a consistent basis, as Liverpool will expect a return for their investment.

"I can see him playing in midfield instead of Emre Can or Georginio Wijnaldum — but I am intrigued to see if Jurgen Klopp can make him the complete player," Keown told the Daily Mail.

"It is no longer about promise with Oxlade-Chamberlain — it's all about end product.

"It was interesting watching him for England in the last two games. Whenever he had the ball, he kept trying to do the impossible.

"We have only ever seen 80 per cent of what Oxlade-Chamberlain is capable of. Now, he has no excuse but to deliver."

Oxlade-Chamberlain recently spoke to Liverpool's official website, revealing a discussion he had with Klopp regarding the position he will play.

"I just say I'd like to be an attacking midfielder," he said.

"I've spoke to the manager about this, there's going to be a lot of positions [available] in this team: up-front, because the wingers play a bit more inside, or the midfield.

"I wouldn't like to put a label on it at this stage, I need to get a feel for how the team plays and obviously it's for the manager to decide."
