Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed his preference was always to leave Arsenal for Liverpool in this summer transfer window.

The England international was the subject of interest from Chelsea with Antonio Conte's side making a move for the 24-year-old.

But Oxlade-Chamberlain snubbed the Blues in favour of a £40million move to Liverpool, and could make his debut for the Reds on Saturday.

Speaking about his reasons for joining the Merseyside outfit, Oxlade-Chamberlain told the Times: "I can't apologise for my decision to leave. I want to get more out of myself.

"I could have stayed at Arsenal and progressed there maybe - you never know what can happen.

"But I felt the main thing was taking myself out of my comfort zone and really push myself to achieve as much as I can in a team and a position where I want to progress.
