Alexis Sanchez piled on the misery as Arsenal were turned into a laughing stock after their Champions League humiliation.

Sanchez was pictured smirking with team mates on the substitutes’ bench as five second half goals and a red card condemned Arsenal to seven years of European failure.

Bayern Munich put TEN goals past Arsenal over two legs to leave Arsene Wenger under mounting pressure as his £8m-a-year contract expires at the end of the season.

But Wenger blamed Greek referee Tasos Sidiropoulos and his fellow officials for “scandalous” decisions as Laurent Koscielny was sent off to open the floodgates for Bayern’s goal rush.

Gunners boss Wenger said: “We produced a performance with the spirit and pride that we wanted. After that the story finishes badly. Personally I would say we really put Bayern under pressure.

“In the second half the ref killed the game. After that it was very difficult. The referee was very very powerful for Bayern tonight.

“When you see the importance of the game and you see an attitude like that I am absolutely revolted and sorry for people who come and pay this money to watch this kind of game.

“It leaves me very angry and frustrated. Even more so because we are in a difficult period. It is absolutely inexplainable and scandalous.”

Wenger insisted that Arsenal’s sorry surrender was not down to uncertainty over his future and actually claimed the club is in “great shape” despite suffering the highest ever aggregate defeat of an English club side in Europe.

“You always worried for headlines, I am here to speak about football, not about my future,” said Wenger.

“Tonight there was no uncertainty in our game. I felt we played very well. It was more the decisions of the ref which killed the game.

“I think this club is in a great shape that at this moment is going through a difficult situation. What needs to change is the result in the next game.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright also claimed the situation surrounding Wenger makes it impossible for him to stay on with a fan protest outside the ground before kick off.

Wright said: “I’ve seen Arsene over the last month looking like that. At Liverpool, at 2-0 down, he was dragging his hands through his hair. He didn’t know what to do.

“With the fans’ demonstration, it’s all mounting up. It’s imploding. It’s a sad day because we’ve gone out again at this stage. We’re going through a period in our history that’s the worst.”

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti added: “This result not respect what happened on pitch they played really good game. Honestly the result does not respect what happened.”
