Manchester United vs Liverpool has always been a fixture with an extra edge to it - and Andy Cole has revealed just how much winning it meant to Red Devils legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Fergie won a fair few of his 1500 games at United (895), but the ex-Old Trafford striker said his former boss celebrated completely differently when they beat their bitter rivals.

When asked if Liverpool games meant more to Fergie, Cole told SunSport: "Oh, man. Massive. Every game was big but then there was Liverpool!

"When we beat them the gaffer would come into the changing room and do a little jig.

"I remember one game, I got sent off at Anfield but we still won. Normally, he’d fine you if you were sent off but he was buzzing so much, he forgot. I got away with one there."

Andy Cole playing against Liverpool

The Red Devils can create history if they pick up all three points against Liverpool on Saturday.

United have never claimed 22 points from their opening eight Premier League games - but could do it with a win over Liverpool.
