Anthony Martial has admitted his goal-scoring exploits will not necessarily guarantee him a starting spot under Jose Mourinho.

The 21-year-old came off the bench to score the winner in the crucial Premier League fixture, getting United back on track after a draw against Liverpool and the disappointing loss at Huddersfield, report the Manchester Evening News.

Martial came on as a sub for Marcus Rashford, as the pair continue to split time in United's attack in support of Romelu Lukaku.

And the Frenchman does not anticipate that changing any time soon.

Asked if his goal meant that he could demand more starts from manager Jose Mourinho, Martial told Sky Sports: "I want to play, I don’t want to be on the bench but Rashford played well too so the manager tries to give us a chance."

Martial admitted the goal carried extra significance in a crucial Premier League fixture against a top-six side, particularly given United had not won in their previous two league games.

He added: "It is important for us because we lost the last game, it was important for us to win and I am happy to score and I am happy we win the game.

"The manager said to me to find the space and I know Lukaku is good with his head. I found the space and I scored so I am happy."
