Antonio Conte has blasted the decision to schedule Chelsea's clash against Manchester City on Saturday night.

Chelsea delivered one of their greatest Champions League nights, beating Atletico Madrid in their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium

Goals from Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi saw the Blues became the first English team to beat Diego Simeone’s side away from home.

But looking ahead to his third-placed Blues' Saturday evening game with the Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge, Conte said: "Honestly, I think, in this case we are a bit penalised and I think it’s very important before taking a decision like this to analyse the different situations of the teams.

"Don’t forget, Manchester City played yesterday, at home. We played tonight, away. We will return to London around 4am. To have only one day to prepare for this type of game is not right.”

Conte also warned his players to stay grounded after the stunning victory.

“We have to go game by game and, above all, to keep the right humility. This humility last season brought us to win the league despite other teams being stronger than us," he added.

“This season we have to keep the same humility but I think this type of game, this win, can increase our confidence.”

Diego Costa, sold back to Atletico this week for £59million, watched the game from the stands as Morata, his replacement, netted in the 59th minute.

The goal cancelled out Antoine Griezmann’s 40th-minute spot kick before Batshuayi came off the bench to hit a 94th minute winner.

It leaves Chelsea top of Group C, on six points, with Roma on four and Atletico on just one.

Simeone later praised Morata, whose goal was his seventh in seven games so far for his new club.

The Atletico boss said: “Morata is an extraordinary player. That’s why he plays for Spain, played for Real Madrid and now plays for Chelsea.

“He makes their team stronger and he played a great game.

“Chelsea were superior tonight. Tactically, technically. It was a fair victory for Chelsea because we were never comfortable.”
