Arsene Wenger has branded Alexis Sanchez as 'exceptional' after he scored twice to earn Arsenal a convincing 3-0 win against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

The Chilean forward has now scored seven goals in his nine appearances for the Gunners, who are now unbeaten in their last 23 games at home in the Premier League.

He found the net either side of Calum Chambers' effort in the second-half rout of the Clarets at the Emirates, as Arsenal's charge up the Premier League table continued.

Wenger was quick to give the praise to Sanchez, who is fast becoming one of the most dangerous players in England.

He told the BBC: "It was a top performance from Alexis Sanchez. His quality is exceptional, he takes responsibility and goes at people. He fights, he can score, that is what you want from great players."

Arsenal were also boosted by the return to action of Theo Walcott in the Premier League - his first in 2014.

The England midfielder has been out since sustaining a knee injury in an FA Cup tie in January, but returned to action in the 80th minute of the game.

"That appearance form Theo Walcott gives him the confidence to play again. I think he will soon be back to his best level," said Wenger.

Arsenal had to wait until the hour-mark for their breakthrough in the game, but Wenger was always confident that they were going to come out on top eventually.

"It was a question of patience and quality and I think we did all of that. It was important not to concede a goal and in the end it was a comfortable win but everyone works hard in the Premier League."
