Arsenal will assess Jack Wilshere today after the England midfielder limped out of the Gunners' goalless draw at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Wilshere has impressed for Arsenal since forcing his way into the side but failed to last an hour of the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

He was named skipper for the night but sustained an ankle injury when blocking a cross from Danny Drinkwater.

Wilshere initially went off after receiving treatment on the pitch but struggled to break into a canter when he returned to the pitch before being replaced by Mohamed Elneny.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger could only watch from the stands as he serves his three match touchline ban.

Wilshere emerged from the tunnel minutes after leaving the pitch with an ice pack on his ankle.

Fans will have their fingers crossed for the talented Englishman after he'd put a strong run of games together following five months out from an injury picked up while on loan at Bournemouth.

Arsene Wenger confirmed Wilshere's injury after the game but hopes it isn't too serious.

"He has an ankle sprain and the first look at it was not too bad, but of course for Sunday I think he will be short," explained Wenger after the draw at Chelsea.

"I do not know how long he will be out. It is a shame to lose him when he is such good form and it was by blocking the shot that turned his ankle.

"It’s his good ankle so I am quite positive. It's a ligament [problem]."
