Arsenal fans have been given a boost by the news that Alexis Sanchez has returned to training.

The former Barcelona man missed pre-season as he was given an extended break after helping Chile to their first ever Copa America win.

Sanchez also missed the Gunners' 1-0 win over rivals Chelsea in the Community Shield. But he has now returned ahead of their Premier League opener against West Ham.

The 26-year-old will is unlikely to feature in that game at the Emirates Stadium, but manager Arsene Wenger refused to completely rule him out

"Alexis is back in training but I don't think he will be involved on Sunday, it is a bit early maybe," Wenger told the club's website. "We have to decide that at the end of the week, but I don't think he will be involved."

Sanchez joined the club for £34million last summer and went on to score 25 goals in his debut season.

And despite a draining campaign for club and country that only ended in July, Sanchez was even posting video's of strenuous beach workouts during his holidays.

"Alex without running around is not Alex, you know," Wenger said of the Chilean.

"You can't imagine him lying on the beach somewhere and not moving.

"He came back in good fitness shape so that is quite positive, but I am not surprised by that because I can't imagine him lying around for four weeks and doing nothing. That wouldn't be him."
