Borussia Dortmund’s Michael Zorc is in line to become Arsenal 's new sporting director.

The 55-year-old holds a similar post in Germany where he has been working since retiring as a player.

Zorc is the favourite to take over a newly-created position within the club after the scouting operations underwent a re-vamp.

Head scout Steve Rowley is to move aside – although he will be retained for specific projects.

That has led to an opening for a sporting director – a position that will loosen boss Arsene Wenger’s iron-grip on football-related matters.

Zorc has been at Dortmund as a player and in the backroom since 1978 and is credited with the development of stars such as Marco Reus.
