A 4-3 victory over Leicester gave Arsenal a thrilling start to their Premier League campaign.

While mistakes were made, the manner of the win will certainly generate great momentum moving forward.

Next up is Stoke, who have been Wenger's bogey side over the years, but Mark Hughes is currently overseeing great changes at the bet365 Stadium.

Olivier Giroud was the hero, but his impact may work against him, leading to him being labelled as a super sub.

Alexandre Lacazette's debut goal provided the perfect start to life as a Gunner, while Alexis Sanchez may also be in contention this weekend after an extended holiday following the Confederations Cup.

Stoke are making late moves in the market, and impressive ones at that, but those should come too late to face the Gunners, or to have settled at least.

While trips to Stoke have proved problematic over the years for the Gunners, this weekend provides the perfect chance to gain maximum points from two games.

Wenger insists Ox won't leave for Chelsea

Arsene Wenger insists they will not sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea - because he will come back to haunt them.

Gunners boss Wenger insists Oxlade-Chamberlain has got the potential to be the best English player within the next two years.

Chelsea are desperate to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer and the Arsenal midfielder has only got a year left on his contract and made it clear he will not sign a new deal.

Blues boss Antonio Conte will make a renewed £35m bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain to bolster his squad but Wenger says they will resist any offers even of it means risking losing him for free next year.

Wenger gives green light for Perez exit

Arsene Wenger has given wantaway striker Lucas Perez permission to leave Arsenal.

The Spaniard signed for the Gunners last summer, but a miserable season has led to the forward looking for an exit.

Perez only featured 11 times for the north Londoners in the league last term, notching just one goal.

The 28-year-old also had his squad number (9) removed and given to record £52.7m summer signing Alexandre Lacazette.

A return to Deportivo La Coruna has been mooted for the 28-year-old.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s away clash against Stoke, Wenger confirmed Perez is free to leave.

“It’s a possibility (he will leave),” he said. “I’ve opened the door for him.”

Team news: Sanchez nearing Arsenal return

Alexis Sanchez is set to make his Arsenal return against Liverpool next week with Arsene Wenger revealing he is a doubt for the trip to Stoke.

The Chilean has been struggling with an abdominal injury which forced him out of the opening weekend win over Leicester.

Sanchez didn’t feature in pre-season due to the Confederations Cup amid uncertainty over his future and his injury has only fuelled speculation over a move.

Manchester City are now preparing a £50m bid for Sanchez, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates.

Wenger confirmed there had been “no progress” on a new contract before discussing the 28-year-old’s fitness.

That's a wrap

That’s all from Arsene Wenger ahead of the weekend’s trip to Stoke.

A few interesting lines, including that of how Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be the top English player in the next few years and he wants him to stay at Arsenal.

There is “no progress” in terms of Alexis Sanchez’s contract negotiations - and he will not return to action this weekend.

Lucas Perez is also allowed to leave, should he find a suitable deal.

Full reaction from the press conference to come.

Door opened for Perez exit

Wenger has admitted that he has “opened the door” for Lucas Perez to leave this summer.

Perez has options with Deportivo La Coruna and Newcastle United both interested.

“It’s a possibility (he will leave), I’ve opened the door for him,” Wenger said.

Wenger wants Ox to stay

Wenger remains adamant that he will not sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The England international remains linked with moves to Chelsea and Liverpool.

“I want him to stay here for a long time,” he said.

Wenger also claims that he wants Oxlade-Chamberlain to be “the English player in the next two years that a lot of people look at.”

Wenger will be busy in transfer window

Wenger insists that he will remain busy during the back end of the transfer window.

That is, however, because he has plenty of players that could leave the club.

“Getting players out keeps you as busy as getting players in, so I will be busy.”

Lucas Perez, Kieran Gibbs and Mathieu Debuchy are among the ones expected to leave.

"No progress" on Sanchez contract talks

Arsene Wenger is resigned to letting Alexis Sanchez leave for free next summer.

Wenger claims that there has been “no progress” in contract talks.

The boss claims that letting him walk away for free is a “consequence” of not selling him this summer.

Wenger would support window close

Arsene Wenger says that he would back the shortening of the transfer window.

While in recent interviews he says it would not change much in terms of transfer drama, it would be better to have all business done before the first day of the season.

“I would support it of course, for the regularity of the season it is better.”

No Costa/Sanchez comparisons

Wenger has rejected comparisons between the Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa situations.

He claims that Arsenal still very much want Sanchez to be an Arsenal player, while it is completely different at Chelsea.

“No, I don’t think Costa has one year to go. We want him to be with us, Chelsea does not.”

Wenger hopeful of Wilshere return

Jack Wilshere is nearing a return to action - and should remain with Arsenal for the season.

He played for the Under-23s earlier this week and Wenger is happy with his progress.

“It is good that he is back and available. He is not far away,” he said.

“I plan for him to be here for the season, after we will see.”

Mustafi and Coquelin back available

Two further returns for Arsenal.

Shkodran Mustafi and Francis Coquelin are available once again.

Both will be in the squad for the trip to Stoke.

Sanchez not ready for Arsenal return

Alexis Sanchez will not return to the Arsenal team for the trip to Stoke.

He has been working hard in training, according to the boss.

“For Sanchez it looks a little early but he works hard in training,” Wenger said.

Wenger in the house

The boss is here.

First up is a question about play availability.

Per Mertesacker is back and available for the trip to Stoke this weekend.

Moving window won't solve summer crisis

Arsene Wenger has warned closing the summer window earlier will not solve the transfer chaos.

Premier League clubs will vote next month on proposals to move Deadline Day to a date before the new domestic season kicks off, rather than it’s current place at the end of August — several matches into the campaign.

It follows years of complaints from managers and chairmen that it is difficult to plan for the season with the market still open into August and players involved in big-money moves.

Arsenal boss Wenger says he would be in favour of the change, but claims it will not resolve the issue, as clubs overseas would still be able buy players from English sides — who would be unable to replace anyone who goes.

Wenger, in an interview with beIN Sports earlier this week, said: “I believe usually people adapt to the rule and if the rule is clear and makes sense, people will adapt to it.

“Let’s not forget that people who are not happy will sometimes go abroad, to different countries and that will not stop. The transfer abroad will still take place if the other countries continue to be open until the August 31 so it might still have some problems that we face today.”
