Arsenal suffered a 4-0 thrashing at Anfield as a rampant Liverpool side put the Gunners to the sword.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge all netted in the heavy defeat which marked the Gunners second Premier League defeat in a row following last weekend's 1-0 loss at Stoke.

Arsene Wenger left new signings Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac on the bench as Alexis Sanchez made an underwhelming return to the Arsenal side.

Facing a fresh wave of fan criticism, Wenger has plenty of questions to answer in his post-match press conference.

Mbappe update

Carragher has gone in on Arsenal on Sky Sports

“Last season I called them cowards and I got a lot of criticism saying that I was too strong, ‘You can’t say that on TV’.

“I’ll say it again... cowards!”

Klopp in his press conference

“This is already better than Hoffenheim.

“Today was excellent, we did it again.

“We wanted to prove to ourselves and be spot on from the first second against a good time.

“We thought more about the performance than the result.

“The performance got us the result.”

Petr Cech now speaking to Sky

“I think it was quite simply unacceptable for the team we are and team we have.

“We were not fighting, we were not running enough or winning enough individual battles.

“We only have ourselves to blame.

“If I didn’t believe that we couldn’t do it I would probably retire.”

What went wrong?

Everything. From the first to the last minute we weren’t at the level requested for such a game. Physically, technically and mentally we weren’t at the level and we were punished. That’s basically it. Of course you can analyse the chances we gave away. Overall the performance was not at the requested level.

Why?

That question is very difficult to answer straight after the game. There are some reasons but I don’t think I have too much to come out on that at the moment.

Last season you said a lot of the problems were over the uncertainty around your future?

Last season I said that after 30 games. We’ve played three games, one at home and two away. In our two first games we were quite good and performances good. Today was not acceptable. Today was not acceptable at that level.

Have you been beaten so comprehensively during your time at Arsenal?

My memory is not big enough. It’s true that today we were an easy opponent for Liverpool.

Will Oxlade-Chamberlain be allowed to leave this week?

I can’t answer a question like that after today’s game. We are focused on the game and I don’t know what will happen over the next few days in the transfer market.

Mustafi?

Similar question, similar answer.

Wenger's post-match press conference

He looks defeated.

Klopp on why Liverpool beat Arsenal

“If you give Arsenal time and space and opportunities to do what they want, you lose the game before you start.

“It was clear it would be hard but we defended really well with the two wingers.”

Klopp speaking to Sky

“We have learned from each game and built on it.

“We wanted to show our desire and the boys did very well obviously.”
