Arsene Wenger has put himself and his players through a re-run of their Champions League video nasty against Monaco.

But he is now desperate to erase the memory of their horror show on home turf and fast-forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

The Gunners were left shell-shocked by their humiliating 3-1 last-16 defeat to Monaco in midweek.

Wenger admitted: "It is always hard (to watch a defeat again). It is hard to see that you make mistakes.

"Having watched the game again, we started quite well and the goal against us was a big blow."

Ominously, for Arsenal fans hoping they never see a repeat of Wednesday night, Wenger said: "We are all human beings.

"We were born without any guarantee that we would not make mistakes."

Arsenal now have a mountain to climb to reach the Champions League last eight for the first time since 2010 and some familiar criticism has been aimed at Wenger and his players.

But it is not all doom and gloom. The Gunners have won eight of their last 10 games.

They have an FA Cup last-eight tie at Manchester United on Monday week to come and have climbed to third in the league table.

Wenger, whose side host Everton on Sunday, said: "What is important now is to look forward and focus on what is in front of us. Instead of worrying about yesterday I prefer to look forward.

"The season does not stop. We have seen big teams before have disappointments.

"Manchester United have gone out in big seasons and still won the Championship after. It is how you respond."

Wenger revealed Arsenal will be without Jack Wilshere for a little while longer after a minor operation on his injured left ankle.

Wilshere, 23, who has been out since November, went under the knife again to have part of the screws in his left ankle removed.

"It was planned to be done at the end of the season but he had an irritation so we decided to do it now," Wenger said.

"I don't know exactly when he will be back but it's days, not weeks."
