Arsene Wenger was forced to take Sead Kolasinac off against Swansea in fear he would aggravate a muscle injury, despite the left-back wanting to play on.

The Bosnian, who joined Arsenal at the start of the season on a free transfer, equalised for the Gunners in their 2-1 win at the Emirates on Saturday.

Running into the box as the rampant home side attempted to get back into the game, Kolasinac found a loose ball roll into his path.

Reacting instinctively, the defender struck the ball first time past Lukasz Fabianski - who got a hand to it - in the Swans goal.

His effort gave Arsenal the confidence they needed to push on and grab a winner through Aaron Ramsey with half an hour of the game to play.

But Kolasinac was forced off the pitch ten minutes before the end, despite wanting to play on, and replaced by Rob Holding.

Speaking about the Bosnian's injury, Wenger told Arsenal's official website: "It's a hip problem, a tight muscle in his hip.

"How long will he be out? I don't know. We hope to get him fit for next Sunday.

"He had that before and we managed to get him always available."

He added: "Yes, of course that's what he wanted [to stay on the pitch]. I thought there was no need to take a gamble so I took him off."
