The brother of former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes has been banned from becoming a company director, report the Daily Record.

Agent , 49, was disqualified for five years after investigators found he withdrew cash from his football tours company to avoid paying tax.

The ban follows an Insolvency Service probe into Glasgow -based Professional Pre Season Tours Ltd.

The company, founded in 2006 but who ceased trading in 2014, ran trips for clubs including Aberdeen, Celtic, Hibs, Everton and Liverpool.

An investigation found that Moyes, of Glasgow, transferred more than £300,000 from the company to
himself as a “bonus payment” shortly before they stopped trading.

According to company accounts, no money was actually transferred – although the move allowed him to claim a loan account debt had been settled.

In reality, investigators found the money had already been withdrawn for his personal use.

The bogus transfer meant the company were unable to pay PAYE and National Insurance due to the taxman. Moyes withdrew at least £420,400 from the company while they were trading but failed to declare the full amount.

At liquidation, they owed £271,180, including £267,113 to HMRC.

Moyes was also a director at Glasgow-based Libero Sport and Education Ltd but resigned on September 1.

The ban, from September 8, prevents involvement in the “promotion, formation or management” of a company.

Cheryl Lambert, chief investigator at the Insolvency Service, said: “This is a simple case of a director trying to avoid repaying their loans to a company and avoiding proper tax payments.

“It was a cynical attempt to maintain personal wealth, with the consequence of depriving the public of tax receipts.

“Taking action against him is a warning to all directors that such behaviour will result in a very significant sanction, with a personal consequence. A limited company is not a personal piggy bank for directors.”

Moyes brokered the deal which took brother David from Everton manager to the Manchester United hot seat in 2013.

Craig Whyte’s fraud trial this year – which saw him cleared – heard claims Kenny Moyes had been a middleman in a failed 2010 deal to buy out Sir David Murray’s controlling interest in Rangers.

The High Court in Glasgow heard in May that Moyes was “duped” into brokering the apparent £42million bid to buy the club.

It was alleged Moyes put ex-Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain in touch with two men, backed by a letter from a Belgian bank, offering 50million euros to purchase the club.

But Murray’s lawyer David Horne told the court that the bid had involved a forged bank letter.

David Moyes last week emerged as the frontrunner to replace Gordon Strachan as Scotland manager.

He said he would be “happy to talk” to the SFA about managing the national side.

Kenny Moyes could not be reached for comment.
