Another game, another glaring miss from Fernando Torres.

The much-maligned Spaniard is likely to start the season on Chelsea's bench following the arrival of Diego Costa, and his dire effort against German side Werder Bremen won't have helped his cause.

The £50million striker, who lest we forget was the top goalscorer at Euro 2012, and once hit 33 goals in a season for Liverpool, struck just five league goals for the Blues last term and is out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

His latest miss came during the west London club's 3-0 friendly defeat in Germany,

A right wing cross found Torres completely unmarked at the far post, some eight yards out. But, with all the time in the world, he fired harmlessly over the crossbar, with an effort which portrays the 30-year-old as a striker shorn of any kind of confidence.

After the game, Blues boss  Jose Mourinho slammed referee Harm Osmers for his performance.

"I learned nothing from this game. The penalties, especially the last one, were nonsense,” Mourinho said.

"Every foul, he gave a free-kick against us to stop the game - and when we had advantage he stopped the game for a free-kick, which stopped us playing."
