Jose Mourinho has told Louis van Gaal everyone in English football are the Special Ones for playing over Christmas.

The Manchester United manager, in his first season in the Premier League, has complained that his side face a frantic fixture list over the festive period

But the Chelsea boss claimed the TV revenue from showing games around the world justified the matches.

And the Portuguese said his Dutch friend will get used to the unusual English tradition after his baptism this year.

"It's the first time for him - next season it will be easier for him," said Mourinho. "And my way of making it easier for me is just to think what we are giving to the people.

"If you think in that direction, that we are giving not just in England but, through television, something to football fans all around the world, it's what they want and don't have.

"It's very difficult for all of us, but we are special because we are giving to the people something they love: football."

The Blues host Tottenham tomorrow night after a goalless draw at Sunderland on Saturday.

When asked for the team's reaction to the result, Mourinho said: "Normal. Normal. What do you want the team to do or feel when the team is doing a perfect season?

"Top of the league in the Premier League, top of the group in the Champions League, quarter-finals in the Capital One Cup, not losing a match in four months. The team has to feel very, very well.

"When the defeat arrives, we have to feel the same way. We are doing things very, very well and it's not a bad result, when a bad result arrives, that is going to change our self-belief and self-esteem."

Top scorer Diego Costa will be suspended at Stamford Bridge after picking up his fifth booking of the season at the Stadium of Light.

"It doesn't affect the team," Mourinho insisted. "We don't speak about Diego. We trust Remy and Drogba the same way we trust Diego. This is not our way of work. So forget Diego. We trust the other two and we go with the other two."

The last time Tottenham won at Chelsea was in February 1990 when Gary Lineker scored the winner in a 2-1 victory.

When told about the stat, in a rare moment of humour in a curt press conference, Mourinho said: "So tomorrow he can't!"
