The summer transfer window was a strange one for Chelsea. What they did well was address key areas of the squad quickly and effectively.

Positions such as a central defender, striker and a back-up goalkeeper were all resolved with fantastic additions, writes Ryan Darby.

Things then started to slow down a little and by the end of the transfer window, we appeared to be panicking.

We were unable to land reported key targets such as Virgil van Dijk, Fernando Llorente, Alex Sandro, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Ross Barkley, who if reports are to be believed, was minutes away from becoming a Chelsea player before changing his mind.

For most Chelsea fans, it's a case of 'what could have been', we've addressed some areas and added depth to the squad, which was the key objective.

They say to strengthen when you're on top and the signings of Sandro and van Dijk could have taken us to the next level.

Not a bad window by any stretch of the imagination, but, could it have been better? Quite possibly.
